Tunnels
Wind Sensors for ventilation and air flow monitoring in tunnels
Ventilation controls
Tunnels require ventilation to ensure adequate air quality, to control the spread of smoke in case of fire, or to reduce temperatures to acceptable limits. Wind sensors are used to accurately monitor tunnel ventilation and ensure safe operating conditions. Vehicular tunnels (road, rail and metro) generally require high air quality during normal operation and smoke control in case of fire.
Reduced maintenance and operational costs
Effective ventilation control can enable operators to run tunnels at financially efficient levels whilst protecting tunnel users from the effects of vehicle pollution.
Operational safety
Ultrasonic wind sensors are commonly used at the entrance and exit of tunnels to ensure safe passage for all road users, in particular high sided vehicles as they are particularly vulnerable.
