Gill is an independent business made up of four companies:

Gill Instruments is a market leader with over 35 years’ experience in ultrasonic air flow measurement, including anemometers for measuring wind speed and direction. Gill currently manufacture and supply the most extensive range of ultrasonic anemometers (wind sensors) on the market. In addition, Gill manufacture a comprehensive range of weather stations from cleverly designed compact varieties through to reference grade stations.

Gill Sensors & Controls is a leading manufacturer of innovative measurement sensors, relied upon to inform and control processes in a diverse range of industries and applications. The range encompasses specialist level sensing, condition monitoring, position sensors and engine control products for the process control, utilities, off-highway, motorsport and defence markets. Gill Sensors & Controls are well known for high quality ‘fit and forget’ products, clearly understanding that long term product performance is paramount to customers.

Labcal is a dedicated team of highly experienced engineers providing specialist UKAS accredited calibration services across a wide range of parameters.

Gill Research & Development is the product design and innovation behind the Gill companies. With broad engineering capabilities combined with unique technical expertise in measurement technologies they’re focused on designing products to solve the market’s most challenging problems.

Gill Company founded

Gill Electronic Research & Development Limited is established by Mike and Lesley Gill in Lymington, UK, as an innovative engineering company.

1985
Gill launch first anemometer

Gill launch their first ultrasonic anemometer

1988
GIll Instruments founded

Gill’s first 3-axis anemometer is released.

1991
Gas flow contract

Gill partners with British Gas to develop and supply the first ultrasonic gas meter with no moving parts, to be installed to measure gas flow into domestic properties.

2-axis anemometer

WindObserver, 2-axis ultrasonic anemometer developed and launched.

2001
Gill creates first ‘capped’ anemometer

Windsonic, becomes the most innovative and subsequently most imitated product on the market.

2004
Gill Sensors founded

A new business unit, Gill Sensors, is set up to design and manufacture inductive, ultrasonic and capacitive measurement sensors.

2010
Gill supply the MOD

Gill wins a large contract with the British Ministry of Defence for the supply of specialist detector products and moves to a new location at Saltmarsh Park Industrial Estate.

2013
Homologated F1 sensors

The Gill Ultrasonic Fuel Flow Meter becomes the only homologated fuel measurement device and is supplied to F1 and WEC 2014/2015 racing championships.

2014
Gill Instruments launch MaxiMet
MaxiMet®, compact weather stations provide users with an easy-to-use, high quality range of integrated weather stations able to measure a wide range of parameters.
2014
Gill Sensors & Controls founded

Gill Sensors branches out to become its own Limited company, Gill Sensors & Controls, expanding to a new office and manufacturing facilities on Ampress Park.

2015
Labcal joins the Gill Group
Labcal Calibration Services

Gill acquires Labcal Limited, a bespoke calibration company.

WearDetect launched
WearDetect

Gill Sensors & Controls launches a new product with innovative technology to monitor and predict gearbox and engine oil condition. The Oil Debris Sensor provides monitoring capability to major manufacturers across the world

LevelSlick launched
