Work experience
A week inside three engineering businesses
The placement set out to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application, and to inspire a new generation to pursue careers in the UK’s engineering sector.
Alan Brooke, CEO of Gill Group, said: “Everything we build starts with people who are curious, practical and willing to solve problems. It was great to see that mindset in action. Giving students early exposure to real engineering environments is one of the most effective ways to show what a career in this space actually looks like.”
During the week the students gained direct exposure to how products are designed, built and tested for demanding real-world environments. Moving beyond observation, they worked hands-on across the lifecycle of our technology, from early-stage development and rapid prototyping to the rigorous testing our products need for motorsport, aviation and renewable energy.
Gill Group has a long history of supporting educational outreach. We regularly take part in the Year in Industry scheme and offer apprenticeships to local talent. This work experience programme reinforces our commitment to investing in the future STEM workforce.
