ULTRASONIC WEATHER STATIONS

You can’t move the weather. You can move the measurement.

From compact integrated MaxiMet systems to configurable MetConnect stations with separately positioned sensors, Gill provides weather measurement for installations where you measure can matter as much as what you measure.

The measurement

A weather station measures more than the weather

The quality and usefulness of environmental data depend partly on where and how it is measured. Wind, temperature, humidity and pressure can each have different installation considerations.

Bringing everything into one compact instrument can make sense for one site, while separating sensors can be more appropriate where individual measurements need different positions.

That is why Gill offers both integrated and configurable approaches rather than forcing every application into the same physical arrangement.

Integrated

MaxiMet measures several parameters from one compact instrument and one mounting point.

Separable

MetConnect separates the sensors so each can sit where the application or standard needs it.

Marine

MaxiMet Marine adds a 6-axis compass and IP68 for vessels, buoys and offshore platforms.

Ultrasonic wind

Wind from WindSonic ultrasonic technology, 0 to 60 m/s, with nothing rotating.

The range

Build the station around the site

Weather measurement does not always happen in a convenient location. Gill's range covers compact integrated systems and configurable stations where individual sensors can be positioned independently.

Choosing between them

Where the measurement happens matters

The weather may be the same, but the installation rarely is. The choice starts with the site, then works back to the measurements, configuration and system requirements. There are fourteen MaxiMet models: the range narrows first by the measurements required, before configuration and installation details determine the final model.

Integration

The station is only half the system

Weather data has somewhere to go. Communications, outputs, power, mounting and the receiving equipment all form part of the specification.

A weather station needs to fit the wider system as well as the physical installation. The individual product pages set out the available interfaces, configuration options and technical information for each station.

MaxiMet

One compact instrument. A lot of weather.

MaxiMet brings multiple environmental measurements together in a single compact weather station. With fourteen models in the range, configuration can be selected around the measurement set required by the application.

It is a practical approach where the installation benefits from keeping the station compact and the measurements together. Marine installations add another variable, the platform itself, which is what MaxiMet Marine is built for.

MetConnect

Put each measurement where it belongs

Sometimes the best way to measure several environmental parameters is not to put every sensor in the same place. MetConnect separates the sensors so they can be positioned independently.

That makes the system suitable for installations where measurement location matters, or where applicable standards require different sensors to occupy different positions.

  • Sensors separated by height, in line with WMO recommendations
  • Third-party analogue, Pt100 and contact-closure inputs
  • TruMet PW100 through the contact-closure rain input
  • Free MetSet configuration and MetView display software

Outputs by model

Communications, outputs and power are specified by model. Check them against the receiving system before choosing.

Add rainfall

TruMet PW100 pairs with MaxiMet GMX550 and GMX551 and with MetConnect. The GMX603 has TruMet rainfall built in.

Before selecting a weather station, consider the measurements required, where each measurement needs to be taken, fixed or moving platform, installation environment, available space, power, communications and outputs, required standards or approvals, mounting arrangement and the receiving system. Each range page carries the detailed specification and documentation needed to establish the configuration.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a weather station?

A weather station combines sensors and instrumentation to measure environmental conditions such as wind, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure. Gill weather stations are available in integrated and configurable formats for different installation requirements.

What does a weather station measure?

Weather stations can measure different combinations of environmental parameters, including wind speed and direction, temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure. The measurements available depend on the specific weather station and configuration.

What is the difference between an integrated and configurable weather station?

An integrated weather station combines multiple measurements within one instrument. A configurable weather station uses separate sensors that can be positioned independently. The choice depends on where each measurement needs to be made and how the installation is configured.

Why does sensor location matter in a weather station?

The location of a sensor can affect the measurement it makes. Separating sensors can allow individual measurements to be positioned appropriately for the installation or applicable measurement standard.

How do I choose a weather station?

Start with the measurements required and where they need to be made. Then consider the installation environment, available space, power, communications, mounting arrangement and any applicable standards or approvals.

Can a weather station connect to an existing system?

Available interfaces and outputs depend on the specific weather station and configuration. The individual product specification should be checked against the requirements of the receiving system.

What is MaxiMet?

MaxiMet is Gill’s compact integrated weather station range, combining multiple environmental measurements within a single instrument. The range currently includes fourteen models with different measurement configurations.

What is MaxiMet Marine?

MaxiMet Marine is an integrated weather station for vessels, buoys and offshore platforms. It provides weather measurement in marine installations where the platform and operating environment form part of the application requirements.

What is MetConnect?

MetConnect is Gill’s flexible professional weather station platform, using separate sensors that can be positioned independently. It is suited to applications where one fixed sensor configuration is not sufficient.
