Monitor the environment and share multi-sensor environmental data easily
Monitor the environment and access meteorological, oceanographic and other monitoring data easily and efficiently using OceanWise’s ‘smart’ telemetry and cloud-based environmental data sharing and publishing system, Port-Log.
and efficiently
Whether you are a port, working on a renewable energy or oil & gas project, or undertaking any sort of maritime operation, immediate and reliable access to accurate weather, water level and other environmental data has never been more important. The OceanWise system acquires data from a wide range of sensors and sources and provides access to reliable real-time and historical data when and where you need it and in the right format.
Installation Example – Calshot Spit Light Float
The OceanWise Port-Log system is being used to acquire and disseminate data from the Calshot Spit Light Float in the Solent, UK. OceanWise’s, ‘Smart’ Telemetry unit, the ip.buffer, draws data from a Gill Instruments Maximet GMX600, which measures multiple weather parameters in real-time.
The weather data is then published via Port-Log into a dedicated web page which displays the data alongside other environmental data from several other data buoys in the Solent. The unique web page displays freely accessible real-time tidal, wind, weather and current data direct from the water, which is highly beneficial to both commercial and leisure users in the Solent.

Why use OceanWise?
OceanWise works closely with its customers in the UK and around the world delivering professional robust environmental monitoring solutions that are designed to meet their customers’ exact requirements.
OceanWise selects the most appropriate sensors from different
manufacturers and integrates these to provide a complete turnkey solution, from simple single site single sensor systems to fully integrated, complex multi-sensor monitoring networks. OceanWise believes robust and reliable data management starts with the sensor, such as those from Gill Instruments.
This approach, combined with the company’s ‘smart’ telemetry unit, the ip.buffer, uses modern Internet technology to ensure data is acquired quickly and reliably with minimal data loss even at remote locations.
This technology means that sensors can be interrogated, and issues diagnosed and resolved remotely, thus saving time and money. Complex data types can be processed locally, thus making monitoring feasible at inaccessible locations and saving on data transmission costs.
Key Benefits
• • • • • • •
Combine data from multiple sensors and manage it in one place Never lose a data record Access real-time and historical data View, share and publish your data quickly and easily Designed and configured to your specific requirements Inexpensive to implement and easy to use End-to-end, customer facing service comprising site survey, design, installation and maintenance Maximise your investment in sensors Realise the full potential of your data
Data is collected from
multiple sensors and sites using OceanWise’s ‘Smart’ Telemetry unit, the ip.buffer, and is sent intelligently to Port-Log
Data arrival is acknowledged, and the
data decoded and stored securely in the Port-Log database
Port-Log data is accessed via
web pages or disseminated more widely using the Port=Log API from where it can support numerous real-time and long-term applications
