Accreditations and approvals

Approved for the zone, the deck, the airfield and the ship

Independent audits, accredited calibration and model-level product approvals, in one place.

On a marine, hazardous-area, aviation or tender specification, the approval is usually the first filter. This page sets out the management system certifications Gill holds, the accreditation behind our calibration and the product approvals held by specific models.

Company certifications

Audited by people who have no stake in the answer

Gill’s design, manufacturing and research operations in Lymington are certified to three international management system standards. Each one is audited externally on a regular cycle, so the claim is checked by someone outside the business rather than declared by it.

ISO 9001:2015

Quality management

The system that controls how products are designed, made, tested and released, and how a problem is traced back and put right.

ISO 14001:2015

Environmental management

How Gill identifies and manages the environmental effects of making things, from materials and energy to waste.

ISO 45001

Occupational health and safety

Awarded in 2024. The framework Gill uses to manage health and safety risk for everyone working on site.

Hazardous areas

An intrinsically safe product is only as safe as the factory that builds it

For equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres, certification covers how a product is manufactured as well as how it is designed. A certified design built on an uncontrolled line is not a certified product.

Gill holds the manufacturing certifications that its hazardous-area products depend on:

  • ATEX Production Quality Assurance Notification, SIRA 09 ATEX M453, for the manufacture of equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres
  • IECEx certification from SIRA for the manufacture of intrinsically safe equipment
ATEX production QA notification

The protection concept, zone and gas group are set by each certified model and shown on its datasheet and certificate. Check the specific model and configuration before you specify it.

Calibration

A calibration certificate is only as good as the traceability behind it

Labcal, part of Gill Group, is a UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory (UKAS Lab 0625) working to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Accreditation means the laboratory’s methods, measurement uncertainty and traceability to national standards are independently assessed, not self-declared.

Labcal provides accredited calibration across six parameters: gas and air flow, liquid flow, pressure, temperature, humidity and air velocity. For anemometers, the on-site high-speed wind tunnel in Lymington provides UKAS-accredited calibration and performance validation. The accredited range for each parameter is set out in Labcal’s UKAS schedule of accreditation.

Product approvals

Approvals belong to a model, not a brand

No approval on this list applies to every Gill product. Each one is held by specific models, and sometimes only by a specific configuration of that model. The datasheet and certificate for the model are the authority.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Gill ISO 9001 certified?

Yes. Gill’s design, manufacturing and research operations in Lymington, Hampshire, are certified to ISO 9001:2015 for quality management. Gill also holds ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.

Does Gill make ATEX and IECEx certified products?

Yes. Gill manufactures intrinsically safe products certified under ATEX and IECEx for use in hazardous areas, under an ATEX Production Quality Assurance Notification (SIRA 09 ATEX M453) and IECEx manufacturing certification. Certification is held by specific models, so check the datasheet for the model and configuration you intend to use.

Is Gill calibration UKAS accredited?

Yes. Labcal, part of Gill Group, is a UKAS-accredited calibration laboratory (UKAS Lab 0625) working to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Its accredited calibration covers gas and air flow, liquid flow, pressure, temperature, humidity and air velocity.

How do I confirm that a Gill product holds a specific approval?

Check the datasheet and certificate for the specific model and configuration in the Gill document library. If the approval your project needs is not shown, our team can confirm what the model holds and what evidence is available for a tender or classification submission.
