Calibration: UKAS accreditation

UKAS-accredited calibration, laboratory 0625

Labcal, the Gill Group's calibration laboratory in Lymington, is accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 for air velocity, gas and air flow, liquid flow, pressure, temperature and humidity. It calibrates suitable instruments from any manufacturer.

What does UKAS accreditation mean?

UKAS accreditation means the United Kingdom Accreditation Service has independently assessed a laboratory against ISO/IEC 17025 and confirmed it is competent to calibrate within a defined scope. A UKAS certificate therefore carries evidence of both the result and the competence of the laboratory that produced it.

That matters when calibration has to stand up to an audit, a customer's quality requirement or a regulated process. Quality frameworks such as ISO 9001, GMP and AS9100 call for traceable measurement, and a UKAS certificate is a widely recognised way to show it.

Six parameters under one laboratory number

Each parameter has its own page with the full accredited ranges and uncertainties. The summary below shows how far each one reaches.

Labcal UKAS accredited parameters
ParameterAccredited rangeCovers
Air velocity0.1 to 50 m/sThermal, vane and ultrasonic anemometers, Pitot tubes
Gas and air flow0.024 mL/min to 12,983 L/minAir, with other gases up to 150 L/min
Liquid flow0.5 mL/min to 500 L/minWater, gravimetric method
Pressure-100 kPa to 140 MPaHydraulic and gas, gauge and absolute
Temperature-30 to +140 °CPlus electrical calibration of indicators from -200 °C
Humidity10 to 90 %rhPlus dew point from -15 to 40 °C

Ask whether your instrument is in scope

What a UKAS certificate tells you

01

Measured values

The reading of your instrument against the reference at every calibrated point.

02

Expanded uncertainty at k=2

How confident the measurement is, at roughly 95 % coverage, which is what an auditor checks against your tolerance.

03

Traceability

An unbroken chain from your result back to national measurement standards.

04

As found and as left

Where an instrument is adjusted, both conditions are recorded, so your records show how it performed in service.

01

Tell us what needs calibrating

Use the form on this page with the instrument, the quantity and the points you need. If you are moving from another laboratory, your current certificate is enough for a like-for-like quote, usually within 24 hours.

02

Send it to Lymington

Instruments come to the Labcal laboratory at Ampress Park, Lymington. Calibration is laboratory based rather than on site. Courier collection can be arranged for regular and high-volume customers.

03

Calibration against traceable references

Turnaround averages 8 working days from the day the instrument arrives, with a 3-day fast track available by arrangement. Where an instrument can be adjusted, it is recorded as found, adjusted and recorded again as left.

04

Certificate and return

A UKAS certificate states the measured values, the expanded uncertainty at k=2 and the traceability to national standards, with as-found and as-left results where adjustment was made.

Frequently asked questions

Traceable calibration means the result can be linked to national standards through a chain of calibrations. UKAS-accredited calibration adds independent assessment of the laboratory itself: its reference standards, methods, environmental control, staff competence and quality system, against ISO/IEC 17025. Traceability alone does not show that the laboratory performing the work is competent.

UKAS laboratory 0625 is Labcal Limited in Lymington, Hampshire, accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Its schedule covers air velocity, gas and air flow, liquid flow, pressure, temperature and humidity, as well as electrical quantities, frequency and time interval. The ranges and uncertainties for each parameter are on the parameter pages.

Yes. Labcal calibrates suitable instruments from any manufacturer within its accredited scope, from handheld anemometers and pressure gauges to mass flow controllers and data loggers. If an instrument is not listed on the parameter pages, ask and the laboratory will confirm whether it can be calibrated.

No. Calibration is carried out at the laboratory in Lymington, where the reference standards and environmental controls that the accreditation depends on are kept. Instruments are sent to the laboratory, and courier collection can be arranged for regular and high-volume customers.

Turnaround averages 8 working days, counted from the day the instrument arrives at the laboratory rather than the day it is sent. A 3-day fast track is available by arrangement where an instrument is needed back urgently. Tell us your deadline when you ask for a quote.
