WindSonic at Glastonbury for structural & noise monitoring
WindSonic wind speed and direction sensors from Gill Instruments provides accurate on-site wind measurements at Glastonbury this year.
Where
The robust and lightweight 2-axis ultrasonic anemometer is installed as part of a wind monitoring system, supplied by Adaptive Data, to capture wind data throughout the duration of the festival. Installed onto the highest point of the Pyramid stage and other areas throughout the festival, the WindSonic will be used as part of the structural safety system for different stages.
WindSonic was chosen because it uses the Gill proven ultrasonic technology which provides one of the most accurate ways of measuring wind speed and direction. The wind sensor is capable of providing wind speed data up to 60m/s which is monitored by the site safety office. Gill’s solid-state WindSonic is built with no moving parts and features an ASA/PC blend (LURAN S KR 2861/1C) exterior, highly resistant to water, rain, humidity and UV, making it well suited to the application.
Noise
Wind and weather conditions are also monitored by festival organisers to ensure that noise levels do not travel beyond the nearby villages. If wind conditions change, noise levels may exceed those set by the local Council resulting in action being taken by the organisers to reduce sound levels. Proven in extreme weather environments, the ultrasonic anemometer offers 0-359° direction measurement in a 0.25 seconds response time.
