Every datasheet, manual and drawing, in one place
Access the manuals, datasheets, quick-start guides, technical notes and application notes needed to configure Gill instruments and integrate them into your system.
Find the document you need
Different documents serve different stages of the engineering process.
| Document | Use it when | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Quick-start guide | The instrument has arrived and you need to establish initial operation | The essential steps to configure the instrument and verify its output |
| Technical note | You have a specific integration or configuration question | Detailed guidance on subjects such as protocols, wiring and data conversion |
| Application note | You are assessing or designing an application | A practical example of how a measurement requirement was addressed in the field |
For complete product information, including specifications, installation and configuration requirements, refer to the relevant user manual and datasheet.
Before connecting the instrument
A few checks at the start of an installation can prevent avoidable commissioning issues.
- Confirm the communication protocol. RS485 defines the electrical interface, not the communication protocol. Modbus RTU, ASCII, NMEA 0183 and SDI-12 can use different electrical interfaces and are not interchangeable. Confirm both the interface and protocol required by the instrument and receiving system.
- Check the supply voltage at the instrument. Voltage drop becomes increasingly important over long cable runs. Confirm that the required supply voltage is available at the instrument under operating conditions, particularly for mast and remote installations.
- Define the output configuration before commissioning. Establish the required output rate and configuration before commissioning the instrument. Changes made after installation may require remote access or a site visit and can affect the consistency of the resulting dataset.
- Retain instrument status information. Where the instrument provides status information with its measurement output, retain this information alongside the measurement data. Status information can provide important context when reviewing instrument performance or investigating changes in the dataset.
Preserve the instrument configuration
Save the configuration for each installed instrument and retain it with the corresponding asset record.
A retained configuration provides a reference when an instrument is replaced, helping ensure that the replacement is configured consistently with the original installation and reducing the risk of introducing an unintended change into an established dataset.
The configuration should be stored as part of the asset record rather than solely on the computer used during commissioning.
Where to find technical information
