COMPACT WEATHER STATION

MaxiMet GMX552

Compact weather station with onboard WBGT and Thermal Work Limit (TWL), for worker safety.

GMX552 is the heat stress model, new in 2026. It measures wind, temperature, humidity and pressure like the rest of the range, and calculates both WBGT and Thermal Work Limit where people are working. WBGT tells you how stressful the conditions are. TWL tells you how much work can be done safely, in W/m².

THE DIFFERENCE

What makes this one different

WBGT and Thermal Work Limit are calculated where the people are, rather than inferred from a weather station somewhere else on the site. TWL was added by firmware, so existing compatible units can be updated with no new hardware. It is unheated, and it is the heaviest model in the range at 1.29 kg.

QUESTIONS

Specification questions about the MaxiMet GMX552

Which parameters does the MaxiMet GMX552 measure?

The MaxiMet GMX552 measures wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity and pressure, with a 2-axis compass and optional GPS. From these and its black globe it calculates WBGT and Thermal Work Limit onboard.

What is Thermal Work Limit and how is it different from WBGT?

Thermal Work Limit (TWL) is the maximum sustainable work rate, in W/m², that an acclimatised worker can safely maintain in the measured conditions. It was developed for Australian mining and is widely used in mining and across the Middle East. WBGT answers how stressful the conditions are. TWL answers how much work can be done safely. The GMX552 calculates both, and many organisations monitor both.

Can an existing GMX552 get TWL?

Yes. TWL was added by firmware update with no additional hardware. It is standard on new systems, and existing compatible units can be updated.

Which parameters does the MaxiMet GMX552 not measure?

The MaxiMet GMX552 does not measure rainfall and solar radiation.

What wind speed range does the MaxiMet GMX552 cover?

The MaxiMet GMX552 measures 0 to 60 m/s.

What ingress protection does the MaxiMet GMX552 have?

The MaxiMet GMX552 is sealed to IP66.

Is the MaxiMet GMX552 heated?

No. Heating is not offered on the MaxiMet GMX552.

How much does the MaxiMet GMX552 weigh?

The MaxiMet GMX552 weighs 1.29 kg.

Where can I find the datasheet for the MaxiMet GMX552?

The datasheet is MaxiMet_GMX552. It is linked in the documentation section of this page.
